Deputies arrested a man early Friday after a traffic stop in the Town of Phelps led to multiple charges, including a felony weapon count.
The arrest involved a 46-year-old Seneca Falls man who deputies took into custody just after midnight following the stop on State Route 96.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped the vehicle in front of 185 State Route 96 around 12:06 a.m. As the driver exited the vehicle, deputies found him in possession of a white powder-like substance.
A presumptive field test later showed the substance tested positive for cocaine. Deputies also charged the man with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and arrested him on an outstanding Family Court warrant.
Authorities identified the suspect as Joseph C. Smith, 46, of Seneca Falls. Deputies took him into custody without incident and transported him to the Ontario County Jail.
Smith is expected to appear in Phelps Town Court at a later date to answer the charges. Deputy Rychlicki investigated the case with assistance from Deputies Middlebrook and Pulver.
