Failure to register leads to felony arrest in Bath

A Bath investigation into a sex offender registration violation ended with a felony arrest and jail time.

Village of Bath police arrested a man after determining he failed to register as a sex offender while living in the village. Police identified the suspect as McClary Williams, 52.


According to police, officers began investigating the case on Oct. 16 after learning Williams had been living in Bath without registering, as required by law. Investigators later obtained an arrest warrant.

On Jan. 22, members of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office located Williams in the Village of Canisteo and took him into custody on the Bath Police Department warrant.

Police said Williams was transported to the Bath Police Department, where officers processed him.

Williams was charged with failing to register as a sex offender under Correction Law 168-F, a class D felony. Police said Williams has a prior conviction for failing to register as a sex offender.

Authorities transported Williams to the Steuben County Jail, where he remains held without bail.

The Village of Bath Police Department thanked the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the investigation.
