Police arrested a man after finding him inside a vacant home on Pine Street in the Village of Bath.
Village of Bath police identified the suspect as Jason Pierce, 21, who officers said is from out of state. Officers responded to the call at about 4:25 p.m. on Jan. 23 after receiving a report of a man inside a residence where he did not belong.
According to police, officers located Pierce inside the vacant house. When officers told him he was under arrest for trespassing, Pierce failed to comply and physically resisted.
Police said officers took Pierce into custody after a brief struggle.
Pierce was charged with criminal trespass in the second degree and resisting arrest, both class A misdemeanors. Police said he also gave officers a false name and date of birth, leading to an additional charge of false personation, a class B misdemeanor.
Authorities said Pierce was processed and transported to the Steuben County Jail for CAP arraignment.
Following the arrest, the Bath Police Department reminded the public that a warming shelter is available at 7114 State Route 415 in the Town of Bath. Police said the shelter is open to anyone needing relief from cold temperatures and urged residents not to break into homes. Additional resources are available through the Department of Social Services or by calling 911.
