Seneca County burglar barricades himself inside Ovid residence before capture

Deputies arrested a Seneca Falls man after investigators say he broke into a building in the Town of Ovid and later barricaded himself inside a residence.

Seneca County Sheriff’s investigators arrested 45-year-old Ted H. O’Connor around 6 p.m. on January 20. He faces charges of third-degree burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest.

Investigators say O’Connor forcefully and unlawfully entered a building in Ovid. As part of the investigation, deputies executed search warrants on a vehicle in which O’Connor had been a passenger.

Authorities say the search turned up tools commonly used to unlawfully enter buildings and remove copper piping. Investigators also located suspected methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

An arrest warrant was issued, and deputies later located O’Connor at his Seneca Falls residence. Sheriff’s officials say he barricaded himself inside before eventually surrendering and being taken into custody.

O’Connor was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Part Court and was held due to multiple prior felony convictions.

The investigation was assisted by members of the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol and the Seneca Falls Police Department.
