Winter salon brings wineries together at Seneca Lake Brewing

A group of small Finger Lakes wine and cider producers is launching a new winter tasting experience that will give visitors a shared place to sample local products during the off-season.

Wineries Without Walls announced it will debut a Winter Salon tasting experience beginning Saturday, Feb. 7, at Seneca Lake Brewing in Rock Stream. The weekly tastings will run every Saturday through March 28, using the brewery’s event space known as The Snug as a seasonal home for the collective.

The idea grew out of a collaboration between Seneca Lake Brewing owner Bradley Gillett and Little Clover Wine Company owner Erin McMurrough. Gillett approached McMurrough about using the space as a winter tasting hub, and members of Wineries Without Walls agreed to take part.

Each Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., four rotating micro-producers will be on site, giving guests a chance to meet the people behind the wines and ciders and learn more about their approach and philosophy. Organizers describe the format as an intimate alternative to traditional tasting rooms.

Participating producers include Barry Family Cellars, Behemoth Farm Wine, Entelechia Wine Cellars, John Albert Wine, Little Clover Wine Company, Prism Cellars, Sylvan Farm and Cidery, and Vagabond Wines. A weekly schedule of featured producers will be posted on the group’s Instagram account, @winerieswithoutwalls.

The tasting fee is $10 and includes samples from all four producers each week. Bottles will be available for purchase.

The Winter Salon will be held at Seneca Lake Brewing, located at 4520 Route 14 in Rock Stream.
