Applause and cake filled the International Motor Racing Research Center as friends and family celebrated a hometown icon turning 90, according to the Odessa File. James J. Scaptura marked the milestone surrounded by admirers honoring his decades of community service and racing passion.
A lifelong Watkins Glen resident, Scaptura spent years as an educator and now serves as village historian. He also launched the Grand Prix Racer Walk of Fame and once led ticket sales for Schuyler County’s Grand Prix races.
The longtime motorsports fan still collects racing memorabilia and model cars. Family members described him as a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who’s earned deep respect across the community.
