Hobart basketball rolls past Clarkson

The Hobart basketball team never trailed and earned a 77-63 Liberty League victory at Clarkson on Friday night behind an efficient offensive performance. The Statesmen shot 48 percent from the field and controlled the game from start to finish to improve their conference standing.

Junior Alex Moesch paced Hobart with a team-high 18 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. He also added six rebounds. Sophomore Allen Mordi provided a strong all-around effort with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while sophomore Justin Price chipped in nine points and matched the game-high with four assists.

Hobart took control early after the teams were tied 9-9, using an 11-2 run to seize momentum. The surge featured back-to-back three-pointers and helped the Statesmen establish a comfortable lead they would not relinquish. Hobart carried a 44-31 advantage into halftime after shooting 55 percent in the opening half, including 8-for-16 from three-point range.

Clarkson attempted to rally early in the second half, opening with a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to three. Hobart responded quickly, answering with an 18-6 stretch to restore control. Mordi led the way during the decisive run as the Statesmen pushed the margin back to double digits and closed out the win.

Clarkson was led by Nate Abernethy with 19 points, while Braeden Burns added 13.

Hobart returns to action on Saturday when it wraps up its three-game road trip at St. Lawrence. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
