A Geneva city councilor walked out of court Monday after a judge approved his release, according to 13WHAM-TV.
The judge released Ahmad Whitfield on pre-trial conditions following an afternoon appearance in Ontario County Court. Prosecutors said the charges do not qualify for bail under state law, prompting his release after he was initially held.
State police arrested Whitfield last week on felony counts tied to the alleged sale and possession of cocaine in Geneva. Authorities say the case involves about an ounce of the drug.
Whitfield remains on the Geneva City Council as the case moves forward, though the mayor has urged him to consider resigning. A next court date has not been scheduled.
