Jury selection took an unexpected turn in an Oneida County courtroom, according to WSTM. A former Marcy corrections officer who once faced charges in a deadly inmate beating landed in the jury pool for a related trial.
The officer, Matthew Galliher, was acquitted in October of murder, manslaughter, and gang assault charges tied to the death of inmate Robert Brooks. On Monday, a judge quickly dismissed Galliher after noting his presence during jury selection.
The new trial involves former officer Michael Fisher, who now faces a manslaughter charge. As of Monday afternoon, eight jurors had been selected.
