Lawmaker pushes probe into soaring utility bills

Heating bills keep climbing across New York, even for households using the same or less energy, according to NewsRadio WHAM 1180. Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara is now calling for an independent investigation into rising delivery charges from utilities like National Grid.

Santabarbara has asked State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli to review delivery fees, cost-recovery practices, and whether current oversight protects consumers. He says utilities function as regulated monopolies, leaving residents with no alternatives as winter costs surge.

The lawmaker is also rolling out legislation this session, arguing an outside audit could restore transparency and explain why bills keep rising.
