Ontario County property owners can now sign up for a new alert system designed to catch real estate fraud early.
County Clerk Jean Chrisman announced the launch of Fraud Alert, a free service that notifies residents whenever a document such as a deed or mortgage is recorded under their name. The goal is to help property owners quickly spot suspicious activity and protect their real estate.
The service sends email notifications when a new document is filed. Property owners can then review the record online or in person at the county clerk’s office.
“This is an easy way for homeowners to have peace of mind,” Chrisman said. “Fraud Alert empowers residents to stay informed and take action if something doesn’t look right.”
Officials note that some names may be shared by multiple property owners within the county. Participants are encouraged to review alerts carefully to confirm the filing relates to their property.
Property owners can sign up for the service online through the county clerk’s office website.
