A new push in Congress aims to prevent deadly farm accidents by making tractors safer, according to WIVT. Rep. Josh Riley unveiled the bipartisan Tractor Safety Act to expand access to rollover protection for older tractors.
The bill would reauthorize the National ROPS Rebate Program, which helps farmers install rollbars proven to cut deaths and serious injuries by about 90 percent. Riley says tractor rollovers remain the leading cause of farm fatalities and often come down to cost barriers.
Under the proposal, New York farmers would see 70 percent of rollbar costs covered, with out-of-pocket expenses capped at $500. Supporters say the measure could save lives while keeping farms financially afloat.
