Public invited to SCCUDD retreat

Community members will have a chance to celebrate local prevention work later this month when a county coalition hosts its annual retreat.

The Schuyler County Coalition on Underage Drinking and Drugs will hold its Annual Retreat on Jan. 20 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Human Services Complex in Montour Falls, Room 120.

Organizers said the retreat highlights SCCUDD’s accomplishments in reducing underage drinking and drug use across Schuyler County. The event is open to the public and was rescheduled after a December cancellation due to weather.

Coalition leaders plan to recognize past efforts while offering education and training. Recent SCCUDD initiatives include Drug Take Back Day, the Sticker Shock Campaign, and the Riptide campaign, which focused on the long-term health impacts of substance use.

The retreat will include two free trainings. One will cover how to use Naloxone, and another will focus on identifying vaping devices disguised as everyday household items. Food and beverages will be provided.

Guest speakers will include representatives from the District Attorney’s Office, Public Health, and Roswell Park.

Attendees must RSVP by calling Public Health Specialist Rukundo Benedict at 607-535-8140.
