Doctor sets Auburn home record

A historic Tudor home on South Street just shattered Auburn’s real estate ceiling, according to The Citizen. A doctor relocating to work at Auburn Community Hospital paid $1.2 million for the five-bedroom property, marking the first single-family home sale in the city to cross the seven-figure line.

The buyer, who requested anonymity, closed on the 1890 home at 144 South St. in late December. Broker Michael DeRosa called the deal an “arrival moment” for Auburn, pointing to growing interest driven by affordability, cleaner air, and lower density.

The sale price dwarfs Auburn’s typical $200,000 median home value. The house features four bathrooms, five fireplaces, cathedral ceilings, and rare glasswork commissioned by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The new owner plans to preserve the home’s tranquility and historic character.
