Mamdani scraps antisemitism orders

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani kicked off his term by killing two executive orders tied to antisemitism and Israel, igniting backlash at home and abroad, according to POLITICO.

Mamdani declined to renew orders from former Mayor Eric Adams that adopted a broad antisemitism definition and barred city workers from participating in boycotts of Israel. He said his administration will combat antisemitism through funding, prevention, and community efforts, not through definitions he says many Jewish groups oppose.

Jewish organizations warned the move removes key protections, while Israeli Foreign Ministry accused Mamdani of fueling antisemitism. The mayor kept other Adams-era measures, including a ban on protests near houses of worship.
