After nearly two decades on the bench, Cayuga County Court Judge Thomas Leone says he’s ready to step aside, according to The Citizen.
Leone announced he will not run for a third 10-year term this year but will finish out his current term, which ends in December. The longtime judge said the decision wasn’t easy, calling the role the pinnacle of his legal career, but said he wants to spend more time with family, especially his grandchildren.
First elected in 2006 and unopposed in 2016, Leone has overseen criminal, civil, and family court cases since 2007. His exit opens a rare vacancy on the county court bench.
