The William Smith basketball team used a dominant second half to rally past Hartwick, 65-55, in a nonconference matchup Friday evening, earning its second straight nonconference win during winter break. The victory also marked William Smith’s first win over Hartwick since 2007 and extended its winning streak to four straight against the Hawks.

Junior Amelia McCulley led the Herons with a season-high 20 points, adding five rebounds and two assists. She connected on 4-of-6 attempts from three-point range, hitting several key shots during William Smith’s comeback. Junior Giana Lobozzo continued her strong play with 15 points, four steals, four assists, and three rebounds. Junior Ava Lobozzo contributed across the board with eight points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds, while Miranda Martin added seven points and a team-high six rebounds. William Smith was perfect at the free throw line, going 7-for-7.
Hartwick was paced by Macy Durkin’s 16 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals. Olivia Farnham scored nine points and Meghan Paul added eight, but the Hawks committed 24 turnovers, which proved costly.
William Smith trailed 29-22 at halftime before opening the second half with a decisive 12-0 run. The Herons outscored Hartwick 26-12 in the third quarter, shot 58 percent from the floor and maintained control down the stretch to secure the 10-point win.
William Smith improved to 2-7 overall. The Herons close out their three-game road trip with a nonconference contest at Utica on Saturday at 1 p.m.
