Drivers on the Thruway got a double take this week as a full-size 19th-century canal boat replica arrived at a new home, according to local officials.
The historic vessel, Lois McClure, traveled by flatbed from the Seneca River to the Old Erie Canal Heritage Park. Built in 2004 using designs from 1860s canal boats, the replica reflects vessels that once passed through the nearby Erie Canal locks.
For nearly 20 years, the McClure served as a floating classroom, touring waterways across New York before retiring earlier this year. It will now remain on display in Port Byron as an educational and historical attraction.
