TeraWulf data center clears zoning hurdle in Lansing

A former coal plant in Lansing just moved closer to becoming an AI hub, according to The Tompkins Weekly. TeraWulf won a key zoning appeal that revives its proposed data center at the old Cayuga Power Plant site.

The town’s zoning board narrowly ruled the facility can qualify as a permitted “general processing” use in the industrial district, overturning an earlier interpretation that blocked the project. Two other zoning arguments from the company failed.

The decision followed hours of heated public testimony, with most speakers opposing the project. The ruling now allows TeraWulf to submit a site plan application to the town’s planning board.
