A squirrel stuck headfirst in a dumpster drain sparked an unusual Christmas Eve rescue in Binghamton, according to WBNG.
Firefighters with the Binghamton Fire Department and officers from the Binghamton Police Department rushed to a residential neighborhood after neighbors spotted the animal trapped. The squirrel had wedged its head into a small drain hole on the dumpster’s side.
Crews worked carefully and patiently to free it without causing harm. Once loose, the squirrel bolted away from responders and appeared uninjured. The department said the call showed that no rescue is too small when it comes to helping the community.
