Firefighters fanned out across Schuyler County this week, turning Santa’s helpers as they dropped off gifts to dozens of local families, according to organizers.
Crews picked up Seneca Santa gift bags at the First Presbyterian Church in Watkins Glen, then delivered them to 92 families with children ages 2 to 12. The bags came packed with toys, games, and stuffed animals to brighten Christmas for kids in need.
Schuyler County Emergency Services Director Kirk Smith said the annual effort relies on donations, volunteer firefighters, and decades of community support. The Seneca Santa program dates back to the 1940s and runs under a volunteer team led by Peggy Scott of Burdett.
