A longtime Lyons pastor, civic leader, and corrections officer remembered for his faith and service has died.
Reverend King Lewis Sr., of Lyons, passed away peacefully on December 14 at Rochester General Hospital, surrounded by family. He was 82.
A life rooted in faith and service

Born August 8, 1943, in Panama City, Florida, Lewis spent decades serving both his church and his community. He was a faithful pastor, choir member, and a guiding presence at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he believed preaching God’s truth mattered more than the size of a congregation.
He was also deeply involved in civic life. Lewis volunteered widely through church auxiliaries and Rotary events and earned recognition as Most Outstanding Resident in the town of Lyons.
Career in public service
Lewis built a long career with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, starting as a jailer and dispatcher in April 1983. He was promoted to sergeant in October 1987 and retired as a Corrections Sergeant in January 2009.
He also served for many years on the Lyons School Board, continuing his commitment to young people and education.
Family and legacy
Lewis is survived by his children, Michelle Logins and King Lewis Jr.; grandchildren Kiera and Shamar Logins; great-grandchildren Genesis, Jeremy Logins-Thompson, Emma, and Emery Logins; and his sister Fannie (Bobby) Smith, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert B. Lewis Jr. and Fannie Mae Lewis, his wife Carolyn Mae Lewis, his sister Dollie Baker, and his brother James Lewis.
Family and friends described him as a man with a vibrant spirit, a heart of gold, and an unwavering love for God and others.
