Why Geneva’s leaves linger

Leaf bags lining Geneva streets sparked frustration just before the holidays, but city officials say weather and timing slowed cleanup, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Residents questioned why piles remained curbside well after fall pickup season ended.

City Manager Amie Hendrix said the official debris pickup deadline was Dec. 12, but snowfall last week delayed several routes. Crews also balanced leaf collection with street, sewer, and water repairs across the city.

The city has extended final pickups as conditions allow. Hendrix urged residents who want faster removal to drop yard waste at the Doran Avenue Resource Recovery Park, which remains free and open twice a week.
