Student engagement boosts South Seneca grads

A jump in hands-on learning and community involvement is driving higher graduation rates at South Seneca, according to the Finger Lakes Times. District leaders say the graduation rate climbed from 90% to 96% in one year as students took part in clubs, service projects, career programs, and expanded extracurriculars.

Administrators credit initiatives like the annual Day of Service, agriculture and FFA programs, travel clubs, and BOCES career pathways with keeping students motivated and connected beyond the classroom. Students also receive targeted academic support when needed.

The district is pushing civic engagement, too. More students are earning the Seal of Civic Readiness, a distinction that highlights real-world skills, leadership, and community involvement. Leaders say the approach prepares students for life after graduation, not just exams.
