Seneca County man arrested after loaded gun found in car

State police arrested a Seneca County man after a traffic stop in the town of Waterloo led to the discovery of a loaded firearm.

Russell Linz, 52, of Romulus, was taken into custody following the stop on Waterloo–Geneva Road, according to New York State Police.

Troopers said the stop happened around 1:38 p.m. on Dec. 19 after they observed a pickup truck traveling eastbound without a front license plate and with an expired inspection sticker. An investigation showed the vehicle was unregistered and displaying license plates not assigned to it. Police also found that the driver was operating with a suspended license.

During a vehicle inventory, troopers located a loaded .22-caliber revolver inside the truck. Linz was taken into custody without incident.

State police charged Linz with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony involving a loaded firearm. Troopers also issued multiple uniform traffic tickets.

Linz was processed at State Police Waterloo and transported to the Seneca County Jail for centralized arraignment.
