Auburn’s restaurant scene lost a familiar face this week after beloved chef Richard “Flip” Taradejna died at 57, according to The Citizen. Known for relentless work ethic and heart, Taradejna spent decades cooking across the Auburn area, earning a reputation for caring deeply about coworkers and customers alike.
A Syracuse native, Richard Taradejna built his career at spots ranging from downtown taverns to golf clubs and lakeside grills. He later embraced barbecue, becoming “Pitmaster Flip,” and volunteered regularly to feed the community, including Thanksgiving meals at the Salvation Army.
Family and colleagues say food wasn’t just his job — it was his life. A celebration of life is planned Jan. 5 in Auburn.
