Watchdog report finds Hochul isn’t that transparent, again

Gov. Kathy Hochul landed on a government watchdog’s “naughty list” for the third straight year over transparency concerns, according to the Times Union. The New York Coalition for Open Government cited her repeated vetoes of bills aimed at strengthening public records access.

The group says Hochul hasn’t followed through on her pledge to usher in a new era of openness. Critics point to her veto of legislation that would have tightened deadlines for Freedom of Information Law responses and clarified access to redacted records.

Hochul joins other state and local officials flagged for limiting public access. Watchdog leaders say the pattern continues to erode trust in state government.
