Pedestrian killed in Thruway crash

State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle–pedestrian crash on the New York State Thruway in Rockland County.

Troopers responded around 4:40 a.m. Thursday to the southbound lanes of Interstate 87 at the Exit 14 acceleration lane in the town of Clarkstown.

Police said a 45-year-old Albany man had stopped his vehicle on the acceleration ramp and exited the car for unknown reasons. While he was behind the vehicle, another driver attempted to merge onto I-87 southbound and struck him.

Troopers identified the pedestrian as Bravo Nondo, 45, of Albany. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle, Gregg M. Albaum, 35, of Nanuet, was transported to Nyack Hospital for treatment.

The New York State Attorney General’s Office was notified and responded to the scene. State Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the State Police Haverstraw Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.
