State Police arrested a man after a high-speed pursuit that crossed state lines and ended in a serious crash in Washington County.
Logan K. Irwin, 27, of Colorado, was taken into custody Tuesday with assistance from the Granville Police Department.
Troopers said the case began around 11:57 a.m. when Vermont law enforcement reported a stolen U-Haul pickup truck traveling into New York. Granville police spotted the truck heading south on State Route 22 at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.
Police later located the vehicle after it crashed with another car about one mile south of the village of Granville.
Investigators said a southbound SUV had started a left turn when Irwin attempted to pass on the left and struck the vehicle on the driver’s side. The SUV’s driver suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where the victim remains in critical but stable condition.
Irwin attempted to flee on foot but Granville police took him into custody before State Police arrived. Troopers said he appeared impaired and was found in possession of a controlled substance.
Irwin sustained minor injuries and was transported to State Police Greenwich for processing after medical clearance. Investigators also collected a blood sample to determine drug content.
State Police charged Irwin with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree vehicular assault, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated, driving while impaired by drugs, and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.
He was transported to the Washington County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
