Troopers said the case began Dec. 6 after they responded to a reported domestic incident in Lysander involving Hoyer and the mother of his child. During that investigation, police developed information indicating Hoyer possessed multiple firearms at his Lupine Drive residence.

Hoyer turned himself in to State Police the next day and was initially arrested on a charge of criminal obstruction of breathing. He was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center.

As the investigation continued, State Police and the Troop D Community Stabilization Unit gathered information indicating Hoyer possessed handguns, assault-style rifles, and a large number of high-capacity ammunition magazines. Investigators obtained and executed search warrants at Hoyer’s home, his workplace in Syracuse, and a garage owned by a family member.

Police said those searches led to the seizure of five completed handguns, three completed assault rifles, more than 50 high-capacity ammunition magazines, and additional firearm components, including a partially disassembled AK-47. Investigators also recovered evidence suggesting firearms had been concealed and moved between locations.

Hoyer was charged with 54 counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and two counts of criminal possession of a firearm. State Police processed him at the Lysander barracks and remanded him to the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment.

State Police credited members of Troop D, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Community Stabilization Unit, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for their coordination during the investigation.
