Holiday travel crowds hit record highs

The roads and skies will be packed this holiday season, according to AAA and the Post Standard. Experts expect about 122.4 million Americans to travel at least 50 miles between Dec. 20 and Jan. 1, a jump from last year.

AAA says most travelers will drive, making weekends before Christmas and New Year’s the worst times to hit the road. Traffic data from INRIX shows midday through early evening brings the biggest delays, especially Dec. 20–23 and Dec. 26–29.

The best bet: travel early in the morning or late at night. Experts say Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day should see lighter traffic overall.
