A former corrections officer will spend decades behind bars for killing an inmate at Marcy Correctional Facility, according to WHAM.
A Oneida County judge sentenced David Kingsley to the maximum 25 years to life for the murder of Robert Brooks, who died after a beating in December 2024. A jury convicted Kingsley in October on murder and manslaughter charges after body camera video showed officers punching, kicking and choking Brooks.
Brooks’ son urged the court to show no mercy, calling the footage horrific and the death preventable. Kingsley apologized in court, while prosecutors argued his abuse of power warranted the harshest penalty allowed.
