HWS students head to Wall Street

Hobart and William Smith Colleges students will soon step inside some of the most powerful firms in global finance.

This January, students will take part in the NYC Finance Career Trek, a two-and-a-half-day immersion that brings them face-to-face with top employers in New York City.

Students will visit BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Citigroup, Evercore, Bloomberg, HSBC, CHUBB, Rithm Capital, and S&P Global. The trek offers firsthand exposure to careers in investment banking, asset management, analytics, and financial services.

A fast track to finance careers

The program is designed primarily for sophomores and focuses on helping students build a strong professional foundation early. The experience is led by Director of Employer Development and Engagement Shayne Feinberg and Professor of Economics Feisal Khan.

“Giving students direct access to these firms and alumni is transformative,” Feinberg said. “Students leave the experience with clearer goals, new confidence and a deeper understanding of where they can see themselves in the financial world.”

Learning from alumni and leaders

During the trek, students will meet with senior professionals and Hobart and William Smith alumni working across the finance industry. Organizers say those conversations give students real insight into career paths and what it takes to land competitive roles.

The program also emphasizes relationship-building that can lead to internships and post-graduate jobs.

Networking in the heart of Manhattan

The trek includes a formal networking reception at the New York Yacht Club, offering students another opportunity to connect with alumni and industry leaders in a professional setting.

The NYC Finance Career Trek is supported by the Melly Institute for Business, Innovation and Leadership, which focuses on hands-on learning, mentorship, and career preparation for HWS students.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges recently earned national recognition for career development, ranking No. 10 for Best Career Services, No. 10 for Best Alumni Network, and No. 12 for Best Internships by The Princeton Review.
