Geneva launches holiday decorating contest

Holiday lights and festive displays are lighting up Geneva as the city kicks off its first-ever holiday decorating contest.

The Geneva Local Development Corporation, partnering with the Geneva Business Improvement District and community members, is inviting residents and businesses to join in.

The contest encourages neighbors to decorate homes and storefronts and turn the city into a walkable holiday showcase. Organizers hope the event boosts local spirit while drawing people downtown during the holiday season.

How it works

Participants decorate their homes or businesses and become official stops on the contest map. Community members can visit locations around Geneva and vote for their favorites.

Voting runs from Monday, Dec. 15 through Monday, Jan. 5.

Open to homes and businesses

The contest welcomes both residents and business owners. Organizers say the goal is to celebrate creativity while supporting local businesses and neighborhoods at the same time.

QR codes on the contest materials link to a map of participating locations and the online voting page. Voters can scan the codes to see where to go and cast ballots for the most festive displays.

Organizers say the event blends holiday fun with economic development by encouraging people to explore different parts of the city.
