A blood donation can save lives, and the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department is giving residents a chance to do just that next week.
The Sheriff’s Department is teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the Cayuga County Public Safety Building in Auburn.
The drive will take place Monday, December 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be held in the training room at the Public Safety Building, located at 7445 County House Road.
Red Cross officials say donated blood supports patients facing surgeries, cancer treatments, traumatic injuries, and chronic illnesses. Red blood cells remain the most commonly transfused blood component.
Eligible donors with blood types O, B-, or A- can also consider making a Power Red donation, which allows donors to give concentrated red blood cells.
Appointments are required. Donors can schedule by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting RedCrossBlood.org and entering “CayugaSheriff.”
The Red Cross also encourages donors to complete RapidPass online before arriving. Doing so can save up to 15 minutes during the donation process.
As a thank-you, donors who give blood between Dec. 19 and Jan. 4 will receive a limited-edition long-sleeved Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.
