State police arrested a Mechanicville man after a late-night altercation involving a knife at a Halfmoon home.
Troopers responded around 11:06 p.m. to a report of a weapon-related dispute and began investigating what happened inside the residence.
State police later identified the suspect as Norman Gifford, 61, of Mechanicville. Troopers charged him with second-degree menacing, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and vehicle and traffic law violations.
According to state police, the incident began as a verbal argument. Investigators said Gifford reportedly brandished a kitchen knife and threatened the victim during the dispute.
After the confrontation, troopers said Gifford fled the scene in a vehicle. Troopers located him a short time later near Cemetery Road in Halfmoon, where they stopped and arrested him.
Troopers transported Gifford to State Police Clifton Park for processing. He received an appearance ticket and was released.
Gifford is scheduled to appear in Halfmoon Town Court on Jan. 14.
