Yates County suspends public transit as new provider steps in

Yates County will be without public transportation starting January 1 as it transitions to a new provider, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

Yates Transit Service (YTS) will end operations Dec. 31 after rejecting the county’s lower funding offer. The nonprofit had been operating at a monthly loss and requested $2.50 per mile to continue; the county countered with $1.25. Officials say the shift to the Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority will take 18–24 months.

During the gap, the county promises updates and interim support options.
