Police arrested a man after officers responded to a reported theft at a local business in Penn Yan.
Penn Yan Police said Russell J. Aliff, 37, of Penn Yan, was taken into custody following an investigation into a theft that occurred December 6.
Police said officers were notified on December 8 that the suspect had returned to the business. Officers located Aliff at the store and found him in possession of items they say he had just stolen.
Police transported Aliff to the Penn Yan Police Department, where officers processed him and charged him with two counts of petit larceny.
Police later released Aliff on an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to return to Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
