Yates lawmakers set to fix tax rate error

County lawmakers will meet Tuesday morning to correct a mistake that affects 2026 tax rates in the town of Jerusalem.

The Yates County Legislature will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. Dec. 16, with a short agenda focused entirely on tax-related fixes. The meeting will take place via Zoom, with public comment scheduled early in the session.

At the center of the meeting are two resolutions tied to an error in Jerusalem’s county tax rate. Legislators are expected to amend a previously adopted resolution that approved the county’s 2026 equalization and apportionment table.

According to the resolution, officials later discovered a mistake in Jerusalem’s county tax rate. The amendment would correct the rate and the amount of county taxes raised for that town in 2026.

Lawmakers will also consider a second resolution to amend the 2026 town and county tax rates. That change would again correct Jerusalem’s county tax rate in the official tax rate summary.

The agenda does not list any additional resolutions or discussion items. The legislature may enter executive session if needed after handling the tax matters.

Residents can watch the meeting live through Zoom or join by phone using the access information included on the agenda.
