A reported wallet theft inside an Ovid discount store led to two arrests Wednesday afternoon, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrested Julia Collins, 58, and William Campbell, 54, both of Ovid, after investigating a complaint at the Dollar General in the Town of Ovid.
Sheriff Tim Thompson said deputies responded around 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 13 after a victim reported her wallet stolen from a shopping basket inside the store. Deputies spoke with the victim and store employees upon arrival.
Investigators identified Collins and Campbell as suspects a short time later. Deputies took both into custody without incident and recovered the stolen property.
Both suspects face identical charges. Each was charged with conspiracy in the fifth degree, a Class A misdemeanor; petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor; and grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class E felony.
Deputies transported the pair to the Law Enforcement Center in Romulus and released them on appearance tickets. They are scheduled to appear in Town of Ovid court on Jan. 6 at 10 a.m.
