Snowmobile safety course set for January in Wayne County

Young riders and first-time snowmobilers will get a full day of hands-on training when a state-required safety course comes to Wayne County next month.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Recreational Safety Division will offer the New York State Snowmobile Safety Course on January 19, running from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Lakeshore Riders Snowmobile Club will host the class at its Groomer Barn in North Rose.

The course is open to youth operators and anyone new to snowmobiling. State law requires it for anyone ages 10 to 17 who wants to ride on public trails.

Students must be at least 10 years old on the day of the class. They should bring a pen, and lunch will be provided by the Lakeshore Riders Snowmobile Club.

A parent or guardian must sign for any youth attending the course. Space is limited, and advance registration is required.

Those interested can reserve a spot online through the state’s registration system.
