The U.S. Department of Transportation is threatening to yank $73 million from New York over how it issues commercial driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants, according to Spectrum News.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said more than half of the non-domiciled CDLs issued in New York were unlawful — including licenses given despite expired work permits. He gave the state 30 days to fix the system or lose federal highway funds.
New York’s DMV fired back, calling the allegations false and politically motivated. The agency insists it follows federal rules and verifies all applicants’ legal status.
