A long-troubled building along the Erie Canal will finally come down next year, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Wayne County plans to demolish the former J.L. Hammett Co. buildings at 165 Water St. in Lyons after years of failed redevelopment ideas.
County officials expect to seek demolition bids in February, award a contract in March, and start tearing down the structure in April. The project carries an estimated $1.75 million price tag, partly covered by a state grant.
Once cleared, the county will convert the property into parkland connected to Abbey Park, with potential amenities for boaters, trail users, and the broader community.
