A Cayuga County man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he was intoxicated when he reported hitting a deer in the Town of Locke.
Gage M. Benson, 25, of Niles, was arrested on December 7 after he called 911 around 6:30 p.m. to request an accident report for a crash on State Route 38.
When deputies arrived, they determined Benson was intoxicated and took him into custody. He was later found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.17% — more than twice the legal limit.
Benson was charged with first-offense DWI, DWI with a BAC of 0.08% or higher, having an open container, and driving a vehicle with no valid New York State inspection. He was processed and issued appearance tickets for Locke Town Court, where he’s scheduled to appear on December 17 at 7 p.m.
Anyone with additional information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office or submit a tip through the county’s SaferWatch app.
