Judge sets sex offender risk level of former Auburn SRO

A former Auburn school resource officer now carries a moderate risk of reoffending after a court ruling, according to The Citizen. A judge reached that decision following a sex offender classification hearing in Cayuga County Court.

Judge Thomas Leone designated William Morrissey III as a Level 2 sex offender, rejecting a lower score from state corrections officials. Prosecutors argued the abuse involved repeated, under-the-clothing contact and alcohol-fueled poor judgment.

Morrissey, 36, is serving a two-year prison sentence for sexually abusing a 14-year-old Auburn High School student. The earliest possible release date is Dec. 29.
