Federal prosecutors struck out again in their effort to revive charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James, according to the Associated Press. A Virginia grand jury refused for a second time to reindict her on mortgage fraud allegations.
The Justice Department sought the new indictment after a judge tossed earlier charges in November, ruling the Trump-appointed U.S. attorney who brought the case lacked legal authority. A separate grand jury had already declined to indict James last week.
James has called the case politically motivated and denied wrongdoing. The repeated setbacks mark another blow to efforts tied to prosecutions of Trump critics, including former FBI Director James Comey.
