Unionizing nurses at Cayuga Medical Center accused hospital leaders of breaking federal labor law days after launching their union drive, according to The Ithaca Voice. Organizers say management forced nurses to attend a mandatory anti-union meeting.
The Communications Workers of America filed the charge with the National Labor Relations Board, arguing the “captive audience meeting” violated labor rules. Hospital officials said they disagree with unionization but will respect a fair vote and declined to comment on pending legal action.
More than 73% of registered nurses have signed union cards, organizers said. A union vote is expected after the holidays, likely in January.
