Trucking industry pushes back on new toll fee

New York trucking companies want Gov. Kathy Hochul to stop a 1% toll surcharge set to hit commercial accounts in January, according to Spectrum News 1.

The group says the fee — tied to commercial toll-management providers — is a hidden toll hike that bypassed public input and could raise prices on essentials like food and building supplies.

The Thruway Authority insists it’s not a toll increase and won’t change discounts. Officials say the fee targets third-party providers, not truckers directly, and helps cover system costs while protecting volume discounts for fleets.
