County offers $3M to buy 91-year-old’s home for Micron project

Onondaga County is offering nearly $3 million to buy a 91-year-old woman’s property in Clay to clear the way for Micron’s megafab construction, according to WSYR.

The deal includes $450,000 to end a 2005 agreement that let Azalia King live on the land for life, plus over $2.5 million for her six-acre property. The county previously moved to evict her, sparking public backlash.

OCIDA is set to vote on the offer Dec. 11. Micron’s project has faced delays and criticism over tax breaks and labor issues.
