Grand jury rejects new charges against Letitia James

A Virginia grand jury refused to re-indict New York Attorney General Letitia James on mortgage fraud charges Thursday, but the case isn’t closed, according to Spectrum News.

The original indictment was tossed last month after a judge ruled the federal prosecutor was unlawfully appointed. Prosecutors can still appeal or seek another indictment with new evidence.

James, accused of lying on mortgage documents for a home bought for her niece, called the case “unchecked weaponization” of the justice system.
